Why?
Over the decades, I’ve met many brilliant creative people who couldn’t quite put their finger on why they were so good at what they do. A part of this might come down to modesty, which I certainly respect. However, if you want to get booked and build a reputation, people need to understand at a glance exactly what you stand for and what makes you so excellent.
If you’re like almost all creatives, you’re often a little too close to your own magic to see what makes you so appealing to others. That is why I created the Manifesto Session.
How does it work?
We sit down with a coffee and have a chat. It is a guided session, but it’s certainly not an interrogation. It is a natural way I’ve developed of finding the fire behind your creative work.
After we speak, I take everything we’ve discussed and craft a manifesto just for you. You might ask: what’s the point of a manifesto? You can use it to remind yourself of how fantastic you are – and why you do what you do – in those moments when your confidence might be dipping.
You can post it as your LinkedIn biography, put it on the front page of your website, or print it out to hang in your studio as a constant reminder of your value. You could even view it as your personal declaration of independence. If you go to networking events, you can use your manifesto as a clear introduction when meeting new people.
This isn’t about ego; it is an exercise in learning how to connect with your audience. I am yet to conduct one of these sessions without the other person leaving on cloud nine with a renewed sense of momentum. I should warn you, however: owning your manifesto might result in a sudden burst of productivity.
